Image Archive is intended to evolve into a fully fledged Digital Asset Management product. The Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is the Digital Vault: the secure core used to organise, protect, validate and access the archive. The MVP provides the essential archive-management capabilities first, with additional components added over time through the roadmap.
Minimum Viable Product
The primary functions of the Digital Vault are to:
- Organise images into a clear, orderly structure.
- Prevent duplicate images from being added to the archive.
- Support a hierarchical approach to image metadata.
- Maintain multiple backups of both images and metadata.
- Validate that the archive is complete and free from errors.
- Provide mechanisms to identify and repair archive errors.
- Allow images and metadata to be accessed without compromising archive integrity.
- Maintain a journaling system that records archive activity, changes and validation results.
Road Map of Features
This roadmap describes the add-on components that will extend Image Archive beyond the Digital Vault MVP.
Off-site backups
Off-site backups will run after an import completes, allowing the core product to finish processing images before backup jobs are started (almost complete using rclone).
Offline backups
This component will back up repositories to offline media such as Blu-ray, DVD or tape.
Image cataloguing
The cataloguing process will use an external copy of the archive to generate a searchable catalogue without affecting the protected archive.
